Are Divorce Rates in Heterosexual Marriages A Reason to Support Gay Marriage?
Submitted by heda0502 on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 10:44.As an openly bisexual individual, I would like the option to marry my same-sex partner, should we decide that we want to spend the rest of our lives together. Now I realize that marriage to most conservative Christians is defined as a union between a man and a woman. Period. End of story.
A Catholic Democrat--Go Figure!
Submitted by heda0502 on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 10:36.I am a proudly declared Catholic member of the Democratic party. Here are some of the reasons that I, myself, support Senator Clinton over Senator Obama. As a woman, would love to see a woman elected as President of the United States of America, but that, but that is definitely not the only reason I support Senator Clinton, because I would just as much like to see the citizens of the U.S. move past their discrimination of African Americans and elect an African
Code Pink Student Walkout and Peace Protest
Submitted by heda0502 on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 10:32.On Wednesday, March 19th, 2008, I participated in my first peace protest. It was an eye-opening and thought-provoking experience. The peace protest was sponsored by Code Pink, a women’s peace organization with a branch here at St. Cloud State University that is against the war in Iraq. I stopped by the Code Pink booth one time in Atwood and talked with the young women there. Unfortunately, the meetings times for the group conflict with my schedule, but I gave them my e-mail which is how I found out about the student walkout and peace rally.
Worst President- G.W. Bush not even close!
Submitted by MattBoyington on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 15:45.Criticism of our president has been very present, especially over the war in Iraq, yet his approval rating is much higher than congress. It is true; he may not be the greatest public speaker, but since 9-11, our country has enjoyed six years of security. After all, the citizens of the United States elected him for eight years. In a matter of weeks a dangerous dictatorship was toppled and oppressed people were free. It is far too early to say the Iraq invasion was a failure.

Clinton, Obama Running Neck And Neck In Indiana Poll
Submitted by limei on Wed, 04/30/2008 - 18:28.The Howey-Gauge poll, a new survey released yesterday afternoon by the Howey Political Report, a publication specializing in Indiana politics, shows Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. Hillary Clinton 47%-45% among likely Democratic primary voters. In a poll of just Democrats likely to vote in the primary, Clinton and Obama are tied at 46% apiece. Gauge Market Research Pollster Holly Davis said, "The Democratic primary is going to be decided by non-Democrats. To be determined is which group -- Republicans or independents -- are going to decide this race."

Jay Leno: "MSNBC is reporting that the Department of Homeland Security wants all 80 million of America's recreational boaters to be on the lookout for terrorists in small boats trying to explode a nuclear bomb. I don't believe it. What are we paying, $50 billion a year for homeland security? All they can come up with is three drunks on a waverunner in Lake Havasu?"
Jay Leno: "Well, the State Department announced today the most dangerous place in the world, no longer the Mideast; it is now between Reverend Jeremiah Wright and a microphone."
Would losing help the democrats?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 10:24.Recently, the argument has been made that the democrats should lose the whitehouse, but continue fighting for seats in Congerss. This is so because many predict the economy will continue to falter, so the Democrats should let Senator McCain win, and they should blame everything on him. This would result in massive FDR style, congressional takeover, and a Democrat in the whitehouse 4 years from now with significant congressional support. Would this work?
Do interest group ratings matter?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 10:10.If one goes to votesmart.org, they can see every candidate’s interest group ratings. For some odd reason, during the last session, most Republican candidates received unusually high ratings from the NAACP. However, Senators Jon Kyle and Jim Demint received a 0. What does this mean; does this matter?
Why is Arkansas so liberal?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 10:07.Arkansas is located in the south, but its residents vote democratic. For example, 3 of its four house members are democrats. Both senators, as well as the current governor are members of the Democratic Party - though they are fairly conservative democrats. Of course, former Democratic President Bill Clinton was from Arkansas, and along with Tennessee, it is the only other state in the south with more registered democrats than republicans. Why is the Democratic Party so strong in Arkansas?
