Would losing help the democrats?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 10:24.Recently, the argument has been made that the democrats should lose the whitehouse, but continue fighting for seats in Congerss. This is so because many predict the economy will continue to falter, so the Democrats should let Senator McCain win, and they should blame everything on him. This would result in massive FDR style, congressional takeover, and a Democrat in the whitehouse 4 years from now with significant congressional support. Would this work?
Do interest group ratings matter?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 10:10.If one goes to votesmart.org, they can see every candidate’s interest group ratings. For some odd reason, during the last session, most Republican candidates received unusually high ratings from the NAACP. However, Senators Jon Kyle and Jim Demint received a 0. What does this mean; does this matter?
Why is Arkansas so liberal?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/29/2008 - 10:07.Arkansas is located in the south, but its residents vote democratic. For example, 3 of its four house members are democrats. Both senators, as well as the current governor are members of the Democratic Party - though they are fairly conservative democrats. Of course, former Democratic President Bill Clinton was from Arkansas, and along with Tennessee, it is the only other state in the south with more registered democrats than republicans. Why is the Democratic Party so strong in Arkansas?
John McCain's VP
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/22/2008 - 09:49.Considering John McCain will be the GOP's Presidential candidate, many speculate who he will choose as his running mate. Among possible vice presidential front runners, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour are consistently named. The question becomes which would help Senator McCain more?
Weirdness
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/22/2008 - 09:40.Though the Democrats won decisively during the last election, Congress's approval rating has plummeted. Yet, despite the poor ratings, most feel the Democrats will win more congressional seats (especially in the Senate) in the upcoming election. Moreover, the Democratic Presidential candidates have raised much more money than their Republican counterparts. Also, many more have voted in the Democratic primaries than the Republican primaries (though some of this may be due to the fact that only John McCain is left for the Republicans).
Left-wing Campus Bias?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/22/2008 - 09:33.Generally speaking, most feel that college campuses are significantly bias towards the left. Personally, the SCSU curriculum seems much more liberal than that of my high school. However, I do not feel that SCSU has indoctrinated me or change my political positions. Are most college campuses bias towards the left, and are students becoming liberal because of it? Or are most students not affected by the bias, assuming it exists?
Poor President Bush
Submitted by scsy0501 on Mon, 04/14/2008 - 11:21.Warning: this may be old history for some. At the Washington National's opening game, President Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch. This was amid loud boo's throughout the stadium. Was such booing appropriate?
The best state motto.
Submitted by scsy0501 on Mon, 04/14/2008 - 11:18.Though every state has its own state motto, New Hampshire's state motto, "Live Free or Die" is arguably the best. Is it not?
Is the sixth district the most conservative?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Mon, 04/14/2008 - 11:16.Considering House Rep. Bachmann's conservative ideology in a fairly liberal state, one could reasonably assume Minnesota's 6th district is the most conservative. Is this district the most conservative congressional district in Minnesota?
Did Hatch help Romney?
Submitted by scsy0501 on Tue, 04/08/2008 - 10:52.Going back to 2000, Senator Orrin Hatch claimed he ran for President not for himself but in an attempt to ease the controversy surrounding the next Mormon who runs for President. What effect, if any, did Senator Hatch have on Romney's campaign?
